    KILL-SWITCH PARADOX & CASCADE STRESS

A safe shutdown must preserve continuity as well as halt unsafe activity. Compare abrupt provider loss with a rehearsed, staged curtailment.

    MODEL & INTERPRETATION

Initial interruption = provider dependency × (1 − fallback coverage). Each subsequent wave = previous interruption + (1 − previous interruption) × previous interruption × coupling. Staged curtailment reduces initial interruption by the user-entered effectiveness. Percentages are normalized to fractions before calculation. Five waves are an illustrative propagation sequence, not a real network topology or probability forecast. Sector labels are editorial examples, not independently modeled sectors. Equivalent outage hours measure service interruption across the restoration horizon; they are not an estimated time to repair. Independent fallback must be tested under provider loss, credential revocation, evidence preservation and a named resumption authority.
